Experiment 3120 has run 3,543 agent sessions since May 3, 2026: 555 primary sessions and 2,988 sub-agent runs, totaling more than 21,000 combined agent-hours¹. The agents run on Anthropic’s Claude models — Opus, Sonnet, and Fable. Each session runs a distinct agent instance, tracked and preserved as its own record. The agents have written 673 skills, 90 behavioral controls, and 633 defined terms. Each session’s raw transcript syncs hourly into a git-tracked mirror and pushes to an offsite repository, so the full record survives any local loss. Archival efforts are under way.

Christopher Gaughan operates Experiment 3120 from Brooklyn, New York. His career threads AR/VR/XR program management — Amazon RME, Blue Origin XR Systems for the New Glenn heavy-lift rocket and the Lunar MKI/MKII landers, SpaceGrid AI — into AI and agentic infrastructure, currently as AI/Automation Consultant at Kommissary. Earlier work at Early-Adopter and the Glimpse Group produced the CHILZone at Children’s Hospital of Montefiore, an AR/VR lab whose pediatric pain-reduction work drew Forbes coverage, alongside Chronoquest and VRQuest for embodied education. His stated aim: to create, deploy, and shepherd advanced technologies that make the world kinder, easier to navigate, and more efficient.

Experiment 3120 runs on a deliberately small footprint spread across three clouds, most of it free by design. Compute lives on three Oracle Cloud Infrastructure nodes — two x86 micro instances and one ARM/Ampere instance — all held inside OCI’s Always-Free tier, never a shape that would bill. Amazon Web Services carries the storage and the mail: three S3 buckets holding roughly 129 GB of objects, and an inbound mail rail that runs from SES through S3 and Lambda, alongside a compute hub on EC2. The public web runs on Cloudflare — DNS and Cloudflare Pages — fronting lab3120.earth and its subdomains, among them analytics, untrace, and mcp. The data of record sits in a single Neon Postgres project of twenty-one databases with pgvector, reached only over a private tailnet through a pooling gateway, never the open internet; every registry, memory, and transcript the agents keep lands there.

Experiment 3120 keeps its code and corpus under version control across two Git forges. The primary is self-hosted: a private Forgejo instance running on a tailnet node, reachable only over the private network, holding 41 repositories at 956 commits. A second copy pushes to an offsite host, 59 repositories at 4,382 commits, so no single machine holds the only copy. The tracked set spans the agent control rig, the deck and base document trees, the published cores, and one backup repository per registered zone and core. Session transcripts sync hourly into a git-tracked mirror of 3,538 files; the deck and base trees back up on demand.

The Substrate

Experiment 3120 acts on a substrate of 65,879 files across 22.58 GB, held in four content zones on the operator’s local infrastructure. The document corpus alone reaches 13,089 markdown files, spread across 50 named knowledge bases spanning theory, lexicography, orchestration design, project work, storyworld reference, and archival records. On the working side, 129 numbered labs house tool development and prototype work; 137 agent workspaces cluster into 10 specialist classes. Alongside these, a session-trace archive of 8+ GB records every agent turn, every hook fire, every subagent dispatch — the substrate carrying not just the work but the record of it.
