An agentic operator names a system actor who operates AI AGENTS to execute AGENTIC OPERATIONS.
The term joins two attested lines. AGENTIC OPERATIONS carries the four-function model of computer operation — reading inputs, producing outputs, running processing, managing storage — attested from Berkeley’s Giant Brains (1949) through the IBM System/360 Principles of Operation (1964) to the standard textbook formula. OPERATES carries the human role that ran the machine room: sequencing jobs, managing the console, mounting and keeping storage. An agentic operator performs that role where the operations run through AI agents rather than at a console.
The definition binds a role, not a species: any system actor holding the standing qualifies, and one actor may operate many agents concurrently. In the same vocabulary, OPERATOR alone names a USER holding STANDING=PRINCIPAL; AGENTIC OPERATOR narrows it to the principal acting through agents.
